HackerBraly, LLP, is Santa Clarita Valley’s premier law firm with expertise in a wide range of practice areas - including catastrophic injuries, business, commercial, real estate, intellectual property, land use, and complex litigation. HackerBraly has successfully represented scores of clients in the Santa Clarita Valley and throughout Southern California.

 

This highly specilaized law firm, which evolved from Hacker, Kanowsky & Braly founded in 1999, is comprised of partners Jeff Hacker and Hunt Braly, who together have over 50 years of legal experience.

 

Jeff has represented businesses and individuals in catastrophic injuries,  complex litigation, and transactions in various areas, including business and real estate matters. Jeff has also been involved in over 50 court and jury trials during his career.

 

Hunt served as chief of staff for former state Senator Ed Davis, and has extensive experience with administrative, real estate and land use matters and issues before the state legislature and administrative agencies.

 

The Firm's two associate attornies, Lori Hollister and Kristen Green, are both capable and experienced litigators. Ms. Green is also experienced in Intellectual Property matters. Ms. Hollister is also experienced in Family Law matters.

Jan Porlier

 

 

 Jan Porlier has been working as legal secretary/paralegal since 1977. She obtained her Associates of Arts Degree and Legal Secretary Certificate from Los Angeles Pierce College in 1977. Prior to joining HackerBraly, LLP she worked for the firms of Bollington, Penell, Stilz & Bloeser and then Rever, Citron & Wallace, both of which practiced in the insurance defense fields. She served as the office manager and legal secretary to the managing partner. She worked for Jeffrey A. Hacker from 1990 until 1999 when the predecessor of HackerBraly was formed. Jan serves as the head litigation secretary/paralegal as well as assisitng in the areas of contracts, real estate matters and corporate work.

Debbie Brozovich

 

 

After obtaining her Bachelor's degree Ms. Brozovich was accepted into the graduate program at USC in Social Work. She has been an active volunteer for local law enforcement agencies and worked as a Los Angeles County Probation Office. After spending nearly tten years at home to raise her children, she returned to her roots in the legal field. Having worked as a Legal Assistant in plaintiff's personal injury firms for approximately 8 years prior to joining HackerBraly, LLP in 2009.

                                                    Kristen E. Green

 

Ms. Green joinged HackerBraly, LLP in 2004.  Her work includes representing clients on intellectual property matters. She also focuses on trademark, licensing and trade secret issues; and general business litigation as well.

Prior to joining HackerBraly, Ms. Green was an associate in the Intellectual Property department at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & May, Los Angeles where she represented a California municipality in all trademark matters as well as selective computer licensing and development agreements. She also represented several national corporations in hundreds of domestic and foreign trademark prosecutions. She represented companies trade secret misappropriation actions, represented corporate clients in software and trademark licensing agreements. Ms. Green began her law practice as an associate with Turtle & Taylor, A Law Corporation in Los Angeles where she also represented corporate clients in trademark and litigation matters.

Community Acitivites:
Ms. Green enjoys being active in the Santa Clarity community. She has coached AYSO soccer teams every year since 2005. She teaches art at North Park Elementary School. She has joined the 2009 coaching team for the Valencia High School Mock Trial Team.

Assistant City Attorney - City of South Lake Tahoe

In this capacity, Ms. Mittelstadt acted as legal advisor to the City Council on land use litigation, CEQA litigation, breach of contract challenges, labor contract interpretation and serious injury personal injury cases. Ms. Mittelstadt was assigned as the legal advisor specifically to the Building Official, the Planning Department, the City Engineer and Engineering Department advising on all issues which arose relative to those departments.

Ms. Mittelstadt handled civil litigation focused specifically on real estate, land use, and  environmental law. In addition, Ms. Mittelstadt assisted on transactional matters relating to government law, and water law.

Mittelstadt & Associates:

Ms. Mittelstadt handled civil litigation focused on employment matters including, wrongful termination, wage and hour, and personal injury cases. Ms. Mittelstadt also handled a construction defect trial Tanya Shukin v. KST Associates in which she secured a judgment, plus costs, and attorneys fees in excess of 1.8 million dollars.    
Deputy City Attorney IV, B/CSan Diego City Attorney’s Office

For thirteen years Ms. Mittelstadt was a Deputy City Attorney handling all varieties of municipal law and projects increasing in responsibility and complexity over the years. Those projects included:

 

•    Advised on Chargers and Padres Stadium and Ballpark Leases as well as addressing all other legal issues presented at Qualcomm Stadium and Petco Park


 

•    Handled Land Use, Real Property and Environmental Special Projects

  • Advised the City on Compliance with CEQA, NEPA, the Clean Water Act, the MSCP, the Land Development Code, General Plans, Community Plans, and Zoning 

  • Acted as Legal Counsel to the Environmental Analysis Section reviewing environmental documents and handling administrative appeals of certified environmental documents

  • Acted as Legal Counsel to the Building Official relating to permit approvals under, waivers of and enforcement of the California Building Code

  • Acted as Legal Counsel to the Historical Resources Board on all legal aspects of the City’s Historical Preservation Program as a Certified Local Government under Federal, State, and Local laws, guidelines and regulations


 

•    Served as Legal Counsel to the Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) and creating a CEQA compliance program

  • Advised the Community & Economic Development Department relating to Small Business Programs, Business Incentive Agreements, Neighborhood Improvement Projects, and Business Improvement Districts


 

•    Served as a Civil Trial Litigation Attorney handling Torts, Contracts, Land Use

  • Advised on High Profile Projects From Conception to Construction Completion including Petco Park, First San Diego River Improvement Project, New Main Library, Central Animal Shelter, Balboa Park Activity Center, Tijuana River Valley Project. Further, drafted the first City Design Build Contract, Southern California Underground Debarment, drafted a Debarment Ordinance, and a Trench Cut Fee Ordinance.


 

•    Acted as Legal Counsel to the City Engineer and to the Public Works Department (eight attorneys replaced Ms. Mittelstadt when she left this position which she performed for six years)


    •    Drafted enabling legislation to allow unique project formation, issued bonds and negotiated contracts for all aspects of business transactions to construct City facilities

    •    Drafted resolutions for approval by the Mayor and City Council

    •    Analyzed the legality of City Manager actions, contract amendments and change orders   

•    Drafted legislation codified in the San Diego Municipal Code addressing bidding issues; contract issues; public works, goods, services and consultants contract requirements, debarment of contractors, and payment of trench cut fees by public utilities trenching in City streets

  • Analyzed Public Utility and Franchise Laws relating to Government Authority over Public Utilities, Statewide Franchisees and Telecom providers

    •    Conducted administrative hearings, including bid protest hearings

    •    Wrote Council Policy 000-29, Protests by Non-selected Bidders/Proposers, at the direction of Mayor Susan Golding

    •    Drafted Administrative Regulation 25.60, City’s Hiring of Architects and Engineering Consultants, at the direction of the City Engineer

  • Drafted, negotiated and approved a variety of contracts including: design-build, consultant, public works construction contracts, contracts for goods and services, and other contracts as directed by the departments
